History
Our organization has humble beginnings starting out as a group of about ten people who in October of 2006 saw a problem and wanted to do something about it. The local animal shelter in Southwick, Massachusetts has a capacity to hold 21 animals and was being used to house animals from Southwick, Granville and Westfield Massachusetts. As a municipal shelter it was not equipped with or designed to handle the influx of animals from all of these municipalities.
Seeing a need to build a larger shelter, this group of volunteers banded together to raise funds to build a shelter that would be able to service the communities in the Greater Westfield area. The grass roots effort began with a letter campaign to local businesses soliciting funds to help achieve the goal. The letter campaign was followed by fundraising events such as candy bar sales, car washes, walk-a-thons, tag sales, dances and barbeques.
The group grew with each fund raising event leading to the decision to incorporate as a non-profit organization in July, 2007. Animal Shelter Renovation, Inc. applied for and received, 501 (c) (3) tax exempt status.
